Digital Drawing

Updated: Sep 26, 2020

I am currently experimenting with digitally created pieces. I've often enjoyed exploring different mark making in my practice, but in this case the motivation has also come about through the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Due to having less space to work (I am mostly limited to my university room), and therefore less materials at my fingertips, I am working out how to take my studio more online. To do this, I have been using digital drawing tools as a new way to document my work.

However, creating art work digitally was something I was hesitant about at first because of the lack of texture and physicality with my tools. But, after adjusting how I view mark marking and investing in a 'paper-like' screen protector, my mark making has taken on a new form.

So far, I have focussed my drawings around three key areas; colour, light and figure. In each case, taking images and ideas from my imagination, and then breaking them down into these key areas. This has resulted in a new sense of freedom as I feel there are no limits to what I can create. I often experienced the same sensation when I was working with paint, a white space where I could go anywhere.

This is a new, fresh and exciting area to explore and I am intrigued to see where it will lead.
